Avoiding the need for shrink and film over-wraps and also carton and case outers, an innovative new, fully automatic collation system has been launched by Sessions of York. This versatile and ground breaking unit provides a cost-effective packaging solution for the collation and bundling of virtually any small, uniformly shaped square and rectangular packs.

Developed using Sessions unrivalled labelling and product handling expertise, this advanced system can be customised to meet individual requirements. A typical application may involve individual packs being formed initially into twin-packs by attaching a label around all four sides. These can then, for example, be collated further into multi-packs of five twin-packs - held together securely by the application of self-adhesive labels to top and bottom profiles of the five-packs. All labelling concepts brought together in the new collation unit are based on well-proven Sessions labelling technologies.

The collation unit is designed and built around Sessions SL series of label applicators, three of which are integrated into this unit. The SL221 and SL330 models used are versatile, heavy-duty industrial applicators and ideally suited to this particular application.

Labels used during the collation procedures can be plain or multi-colour printed for maximum brand or ‘special offer’ impact. Sessions, one of the UK’s major label suppliers, can also supply self-adhesive labels for use on its new system, incorporating features such as tamper- evidence, scratch and sniff or variable coding data.
