SESSIONS OF YORK RESCUES LITHUANIAN MANUFACTURER FROM A VIAL PROBLEM

Sessions specially designs system to provide fast and accurate labelling of unusually shaped and unstable vials

When Lithuanian-based Fermentas UAB needed a solution to a complex labelling project, it found Sessions of York the only company able to rise to the challenge. After a world wide search, Fermentas approached Sessions with the problem of designing a machine to apply two labels to an unusually shaped and unstable Bio Vial. Modelled on its popular Spectrum labeller, Sessions custom built a unit with the ability to handle the vial’s contours and size - revolutionising the entire production process.

Fermentas UAB is a world leader in manufacturing and marketing quality molecular biology products. The company’s Technical Director, comments: “I contacted numerous companies all over the world for this labelling project, but none were able to help. I had about given up when a colleague showed me the website for Sessions. As the vial is such an unusual shape and totally unstable, handling was a real problem. No one Ase seemed to pursue our enquiry after seeing the samples. However, Sessions was able to design a labelling unit to specifically meet our unique requirements. This machine has revolutionised our production output helping Fermentas pursue other markets for our products.”

Designed using pick and place technology, developed over the years by Sessions’ exceptional engineering team, the unit is based on the company’s versatile and compact Spectrum labeller to achieve the highest degree of accuracy.

Operating at speeds of up to 60 vials per minute, the Sessions unit places a top label on to the vial cap and indexes around to the second station. The vial is then spun at a speed synchronised with the second labeller, which applies the wrap around label. Finally the machine automatically ejects the labelled vial into a hopper.

The labelling solution for Fermentas underlines further Sessions of York reputation as one of the UK’s leading and most progressive manufacturers of self-adhesive labels and labelling equipment. The company supplies an extensive range of high performance labelling machines, which are available ex-stock or can be custom built to suit individual requirements.
