Sessions of York has supplied a leading manufacturer of pre-finished steel with two of their Spectrum labelling machines to solve a unique problem of identifying joins and flaws in their rolled sheet stock. The British owned steel company required a labelling machine to apply coloured indicator labels to the edge of the moving steel, highlighting joints and flaws. Sessions of York attended the site and specified a very unique system in response to the problem. The solution came in the form of the user friendly Spectrum labeller, which is designed for high speed application of self adhesive labels onto virtually any type of product. The machine was designed using a twin scanning system that monitors the edge of the moving steel. In the event of a width change of the steel, the scanners would search for the edge and adjust the machine position accordingly. The Spectrum labeller is lightweight whilst being extremely robust, and runs at speed of up to 50 meters per minute. The integrated electronics provide a master/slave function that enables two machines to work in alternating relay mode. This function eliminates downtime during label and reel changes. The Spectrum labeller has proven to be such a successful solution that Sessions are now quoting for further installations at other branches of the British Steel Network. Sessions of York have once again demonstrated the versatility of their labelling machinery by developing an automated solution for what was not only a unique problem but also involved a material which was potentially difficult to work with. This unique solution has resulted in this area becoming “a more automated part of the business and reduced costs,” explained a spokesperson for the steel company. Sessions of York is acknowledged to be one of the UK’s leading and most progressive manufacturers of self-adhesive labels and labelling equipment. The company supplies an extensive range of high performance labelling machines, which are available ex-stock or can be custom built to suit individual requirements. Sessions are also able to provide on-site equipment demonstrations if required. |
