Sessions of York has supplied a large Japanese motor manufacturer with one of its SPA 92X labellers to print and apply a 80mm x 40mm label to the tread area of car tyres as they travelled along a chain conveyor.

Using its machinery expertise, Sessions were able to devise a method of gating the tyres on the conveyor and applying the label at a point where the tyre was stationary for a couple of seconds. After printing and applying the label, the printed information is checked against a database of information and the tyre released on verification.

With its high performance one-to-one operation, the SPA 92X print/apply labeller proved ideal for this application, ensuring that the relevant information including consecutive numbering was applied to the correct tyre type.

For this application, the SPA 92X print/apply labeller was also fitted with a light touch applicator driven by a pneumatic cylinder. This can operate at 100 strokes per minute in any orientation and ensures firm adhesion of the label to the tyre without risk of damaging it.

The SPA 92X print/apply labeller is easy to operate, robust and reliable and is able to meet the most demanding of industrial applications. It is available in both left and right hand versions and is easily integrated into any production line.

The SPA 92X’s multi-tasking operation system builds the next print job while the current label is being printed. The labeller can even sustain its operation while changing between print jobs. Impressive print speeds of 400mm/second and a print head resolution of 12 dots/mm provide a throughput with excellent print quality, even for the smallest fonts and graphics.

To increase run time the SPA 92X series can handle big reels up to 300mm in diameter and 1000m long foil reels. These features together with its “foil save” system minimise downtime and maximise on foil economy.
