Sessions of York has supplied an innovative joint label and label application solution to a global manufacturer and distributor of consumer healthcare products. Used for a range of footcare products, Sessions was required to provide a labelling solution which could effectively apply a label to the front and back of a plastic clamshell shaped container, allowing plenty of space for information as well as closure protection and a tamper evident seal.

The machine used for this complex project was based on Sessions’ popular and well-proven SL350 labelling unit which is renowned for its pinpoint accuracy. This double-headed machine proved to be ideal as the front and back label had to be applied in extremely tight register in order to ensure an effective tamper evident seal without compromising the label text and graphics. With Sessions providing the complete package of machine and label the need for stringent registration was easily fulfilled.

The SL350 is a mid-range applicator and combines superb design features with robust manufacture, allowing the unit to withstand harsh industrial environments. For this particular project the machines were top and bottom mounted applying the labels at the interface of a twin conveyor configuration. In addition, to overcome the difficulties of conveying the unusually shaped clamshell container, Sessions designed a special drive system which cleverly propels the container from the rear.

The advantages of supplying a complete label and labelling machine package in a very precise project such this are clear to see. Having complete control over all aspects of the operation throughout the label design and machine modifications, enables Sessions to provide a solution that not only fits the client’s needs exactly but also delivers valuable time and cost savings.
