Accuracy, speed and user-friendliness was the specification given to Sessions of York by one of its large retail customers for a machine that could print and apply labels, at speed and extremely accurately, to both sides of a header card. The solution was Sessions’ new Double Magnum machine, based on the well-proven SPA 924 Print and Apply labellers.

The specially designed Double Magnum system incorporates a top and bottom mounted pair of print and apply labellers with twin transport conveyors. An intermittent feeder unit at the in-feed supplies the cards at regular intervals and the printed labels are applied as the cards pass over the interface of the conveyors. The products, which are carefully controlled throughout the labelling process, are then auto-ejected into a catchment hopper on the out-feed.

A simple-to-use operating system was required for the large range of products whose profiles needed to be recalled easily and instantly. As a result, Sessions installed a system where product details such as text format, barcode and product description are logged onto a general database that can be readily accessed. The operator simply enters the product code and the correct text and code layout is automatically selected on completion of the previous batch.

The Double Magnum runs at up to 160 cards per minute with a placement accuracy of within 0.5mm, making stack-to-stack labelling applications faster, more accurate and easier that ever before. A variety of labelling heads can be interfaced with the system according to customer requirements.
