Following a recommendation by the RNIB, leading tactile label manufacturers, Sessions of York Ltd, was approached by Clement Clarke International Ltd - producers of high quality medical instruments. The company was asked to supply Braille labels for use on respiratory equipment being provided to the visually impaired. The Braille 'Flow Meter' labels are supplied on rolls to Clement Clarke, who are then distributing them free to Doctor's Surgery's, Hospitals and Pharmacy's within in the UK and Europe with the potential of world-wide use. The Sessions tactile labels are applied manually onto respiratory flow meters - which patients use to monitor their asthma - to allow the visually impaired to check the test results. The Sessions labels are extremely specialised, with high visibility colours of black on yellow and the transparent, raised markings on top to create the tactile graduations. As a result of its wide experience in the production of tactile labels, Sessions is a recommended supplier on the RNIB list. Prior to speaking to Sessions, Clement Clarke had great trouble finding a company that could supply suitable labels. Marked at 5mm gaps with Braille dots and straight lines to show the divisions between the numbers, the labels are scaled from 60 to 800. Using the same technology, which produces raised areas of graphics within a body of conventional print, Sessions can provide a virtually unlimited variety of self-adhesive labels incorporating raised symbols, graphics and tactile warning symbols. |
