SESSIONS KEEPS IN TOUCH!

New tactile labels help the partially sighted stay safe in hospital

Making full use of its comprehensive technical capabilities Sessions of York has recently developed a tactile label to help partially sighted people distinguish between objects in hospitals and nursing homes. Produced for one of its customers, specialising in sourcing various packaging components and materials to the Pharmaceutical, Healthcare and Chemical industries, the clever labels serve as a warning on potentially hazardous products.

In this particular case the tactile labels, applied to a glass bottle, are intended to convey a message to the elderly and partially sighted that the item is for external use only. Although the dots on the label cannot actually be read, they simply convey a warning in the same way as another widely used Sessions product, statutory tactile triangles, used on hazardous substances. The labels have quickly been adopted successfully by one hospital demonstrating the potential effectiveness of this simple and innovative product.
