SESSIONS DOUBLES ITS OVERPRINTING CAPACITY

Increasing demand for sequential numbering on labels leads Sessions of York
to install a second inspection finishing machine

Responding to the rapidly growing requirements for full traceability and accountability in the pharmaceutical, chemical, security and promotional industries, Sessions of York has doubled its sequential numbering capabilities with the installation of a second ink jet inspection finishing machine.

In recent years, Sessions has seen a large number of customers increasingly requesting and using sequential numbering for products where security, traceability, quality and batch control are crucial. More recently, customers are also opting for consecutive number printing on the label backing to optimise labelling efficiency on production lines.

The new multihead ink jet printer is installed in Sessions’ own in-house Label Bureau where it is overprinting large quantities of pre-printed and plain labels with sequential numbering, variable copy, EAN barcodes and Pharma and dot matrix codes. The machine operates reel-fed labels in self-adhesive, non-adhesive and wet glue label formats.

The addition of this inspection finishing machine also demonstrates Sessions’ commitment to its PS9000:2001 accreditation gained earlier this year. This quality management system places rigorous demands on all producers of pharmaceutical packaging materials, setting a widely accepted Good Manufacturing Practice framework to ensure that medicines are labelled and packaged to consistently high levels of quality.
